Forum Thread: Where to Buy Roaccutane

User: SunflowerSeed84

Hi everyone! I've been prescribed Roaccutane for my severe acne. My dermatologist recommended it but didn't give me any details on where to get it. Does anyone know if I can buy this over the counter, or do I need a specific pharmacy?

Hey SunflowerSeed84! Roaccutane is pretty serious and powerful stuff, so you definitely need a prescription from your dermatologist or doctor to get it. It's not something that can be bought over the counter. You'll have to go through a pharmacy that handles prescription medications.

Thanks for the info BeachBum123! I figured as much. My local pharmacy says they don't stock Roaccutane. What are my options here? Do you know if there's any specific type of pharmacy that carries it, or do I need to look elsewhere?

SunflowerSeed84, you're right – not all pharmacies carry Roaccutane because it’s a prescription medication with strict guidelines. You'll probably want to check out larger chain pharmacies like CVS, Walgreens, or your local independent pharmacy that specializes in prescriptions. Sometimes specialty pharmacies might be able to get it for you if they don't have it in stock initially.

Got it! I’ll start checking with those places. Do you think the cost is going to be significantly higher than other medications? And are there any alternatives that I should consider?

User: BeachBum123

SunflowerSeed84, Roaccutane can indeed be pricey due to its potency and specific use cases. It's a brand-name medication, so it might not be cheap unless you have good insurance coverage or access to generic equivalents like isotretinoin. Alternatives could include other acne treatments your dermatologist might recommend if the cost is an issue, but Roaccutane is really effective for severe acne.

SunflowerSeed84, and don't forget to ask about patient assistance programs or coupons that can help reduce costs. Sometimes pharmaceutical companies have these programs in place specifically to make their medications more affordable. It's worth asking your dermatologist too – they might know of additional resources.
