Forum Topic: Accutane Prescription Online - Advice Needed

Post by @SkinClear42:
Hey everyone! I’ve been dealing with severe acne for years now and my dermatologist recommended trying Accutane. However, due to some restrictions and high costs in my area, I’m considering getting it from an online pharmacy. Is this a safe option? Anyone have experience or advice on where to get it safely?

@SkinClear42 - Thank you for reaching out! Before we dive into the specifics of purchasing Accutane (isotretinoin) online, I want to stress the importance of obtaining this medication under direct supervision from a healthcare provider. Accutane can have serious side effects and requires careful monitoring. It’s crucial that your dermatologist or a trusted doctor is involved in managing your treatment plan.

@DrAestheticMD - Thanks for the response! I understand the need to be monitored, but what about online pharmacies? Are there any reputable ones you would recommend?

Reply by @DrAestheticMD:
@SkinClear42 - Obtaining Accutane through an online pharmacy is generally not advisable. Many online pharmacies do not require a prescription or proper medical oversight, which can lead to misuse and increased health risks. Additionally, it’s illegal for most online pharmacies outside the U.S. to ship controlled substances like isotretinoin into the country.

@DrAestheticMD - I’ve heard that some online pharmacies claim they are FDA-approved or have some sort of certification. Should I trust those claims?

Reply by @DrAestheticMD:
@WrinkleFree82 - Be very cautious with such claims. The FDA regulates prescription medications, but it does not certify online pharmacies themselves. A legitimate online pharmacy must be registered in the U.S. and have a valid license to dispense medication. They should also require a valid prescription from your healthcare provider.

@DrAestheticMD - What about privacy concerns? I’d rather not go through my regular doctor’s office if there’s another safe way to get it.

@SkinClear42 - Privacy is a valid concern, but remember that your healthcare provider is legally bound to keep your information confidential. If you are worried about privacy and stigma associated with severe acne, discussing this directly with your doctor can help alleviate some concerns. They may even be able to provide more tailored advice on managing your condition.

@DrAestheticMD - Can I at least get a prescription from my dermatologist and then buy it online? Is that safer?

Reply by @DrAestheticMD:
@GlowGirl24 - Even with a valid prescription, purchasing Accutane online comes with significant risks. The pharmacy must be verified as legitimate (check their credentials on the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy’s VIPPS program). However, due to the complex monitoring required for isotretinoin use, it's safest and most effective to get your medication from a local, reputable pharmacist who can provide you with necessary lab tests and follow-up care.

@DrAestheticMD - Thanks so much for all this information. I’ll definitely discuss my options further with my dermatologist and look into getting it through a proper pharmacy here in the U.S. Much appreciated!
